Newborns and Babies

I don’t believe you need special props or poses to show off the beauty of your baby. I believe the most special moments are the ones taken at home, the ones of you and your baby and your new little family.

What can I expect when you come to my home for a newborn/baby session?

When I come to your home to photograph you, your family and your baby I am all about capturing all that love! I know you are tired and sore and the last thing you want to do is dress up and take your baby out! That’s why I come to you!

When I first arrive at your home, I’ll ask you to give me a tour so that I can determine the best rooms to use for your shoot. As a natural light photographer, I’ll choose the rooms with the best light. This is normally the master bedroom, living room and if it’s bright enough and set up, the baby’s nursery. When I had my second baby, she didn’t have a bedroom of her own for the first 6 months - so don’t stress if your baby doesn’t have a bedroom yet!

My style of photography is called lifestyle. Which means I don’t take, posed, staged photos of your baby. There won’t be any special wrapping techniques or props. They will be true, honest images of how you and your family feel about your new addition!

When should I book my newborn/baby session?

Because my images aren’t posed, you don’t need to book your shoot in the first few days after the baby in born. It’s great if I can get to you in those first 2 weeks but don’t worry if you want to wait until things have settled down a bit. I love capturing babies as they grow and start to give you those beautiful smiles and show their personality! So don’t feel like you have missed out if you didn’t organise newborn photos - all babies are BEAUTIFUL!

How should I prepare my home?

Yes… preparing your home. The last thing you want to do after having a baby is clean up your house! If the nesting period has done it’s job your house should be reasonably clutter free - unless you have older children - then your house will never be clutter free again!

Seriously though, I don’t want you to stress about cleaning your house before I come over. If you can clean away any clutter you don’t want in photos by throwing things in cupboards and drawers that will help make your images more striking. I’m also very happy to slide the box of nappies out of the shot - no-one will know they were there!

As we will probably take photos on your master bed, a neutral coloured doona cover on the bed is great, as I often photograph babies on the bed.

What should I dress baby in?

I like to keep it simple. Your photos should be showing off your baby, not your baby’s new outfit. A neutral coloured grow suit (grey, white, beige, pale pink, pale blue, pale yellow) looks beautiful! We can also wrap baby in a beautiful muslin wrap and get some nice sleepy photos of him or her. You might also like to dig out the blanket your Grandma handed down or the antique basket your mum gave to you. It’s great to include special things like that in your photos.
